Restricting Blood Flow?

Personalized Blood Flow Restriction (PBFR) training is a game-changing injury recovery therapy that is producing dramatically positive results!

PBFR has been consistently shown to expedite the healing process and can create significant strength and hypertrophy gains with loads as low as 20% 1RM. Frequently, this modality is applied to sports rehabilitation and postoperative care, to help rebuild strength and muscle mass quickly and more efficiently; but can be used across many patient populations.

What is it?

PBFR is the application of a specialized tourniquet system to a proximal arm or leg, which is inflated to a personalized and specific pressure, to reduce blood flow to an exercising extremity.

How long does it last?

The application is brief and intermittent, typically about 6 minutes per exercise, but can last up to 30 minutes based on specific protocol.

Why use it?

PBFR has been widely researched, and proven to create significant strength and hypertrophy gains with loads as low as 20% 1 RM.

Additionally, it has been shown to:

• Diminish atrophy and loss of strength from disuse & non-weight bearing after injuries

• Increase strength with only 30% loads

• Increase hypertrophy with only 30% loads

• Improve muscle endurance in ⅓ the time

• Improve muscle protein synthesis in the elderly

• Improve strength and hypertrophy after surgery

• Improve muscle activation

• Increase growth hormone response

Positive results have been seen in patients after injury, in the elderly, and in athletic populations. Additionally, it has been widely applied in military rehabilitation settings on severely compromised patients.

Is PBFR safe?

PBFR has consistently demonstrated to be a safe modality in the literature. It has been performed on thousands of subjects in peer-reviewed literature with little to no side effects. Contraindications to PBFR include, but not limited to: Venous thromboembolism, impaired circulation/peripheral vascular compromise, acidosis, and significant extremity infection.

Why use PBFR at TrueMotion?

TrueMotion is currently the only clinic in Clark and Cowlitz County that is a certified provider of blood flow restriction training with the Delfi PTS System, one of the only Class I devices approved by the FDA for blood flow restriction training.
